Wine Refined on a Budget!

Picture
When blind folded, most people cannot pick out the expensive from the less costly bottles of wine. They all taste good today! Life is too short to be a wine snob. Here are some tips for pouring a great glass of wine!

Number one rule.......DECANT, DECANT, DECANT. One way to refine a wine is by decanting it. Wines, especially younger ones, can benefit from a little air time, known as "opening up". Pour the wine into a glass decanter and then let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Flavor will really develop once the wine is reunited with oxygen. That budget wine will fool you and your guests once it's decanted. The decanter looks good on the table too.

Just remember to hide the box/bottle before everyone gets there!

1. Shop til you Drop.....go low.....on the shelf that is.....
Cheaper wines live down under on the bottom shelf. Some worth trying:
                                         Crane Lake Pinot Noir
                                         Gallo Hearty Burgundy

2. Go Big....
The 1.5 liter bottles offer tons of value. Try:
                                         Yellow Tail wines

3. Go Box......come on.....you can think inside the box, can't you?????? Worth trying:
                                          Bota Box Chardonnay
                                          Black Box Shiraz
(in Tetra-Pak cartons) Bandit Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio

4.
Make Sangria....
Sangria tastes best with cheap wine, because it's sweeter and less heavy. Any red table wine or   burgundy works great. Just add orange juice or any other fruit juice you like, such as papaya or guava, sweet and sour mix, and all the cut up fruit for garnish (oranges, grapes, limes, lemons, apples). Sangria is a family signature item, and so you can create the mix you like. Some people put brandy in their Sangria, but for those of us on a budget,,,,,,stick to wine and fruit juice. You can even spark it up with sprite if you like it more fizzy. Everyone loves Sangria, and you can really conserve on the expense of the wine when serving it at a party. Remember to make your ice cubes out of juice so they don't water it down.

Cheers!!!!!
