Giving to others is a key to Happiness and Fulfillment in Life

Have you ever noticed that the most unhappy people are those who are self-centered? They just don't get it. They are so consumed with their circumstances that there is no awareness of the true meaning of life. Happiness comes from a feeling of being satified and having a sense of love around oneself.....coming and going. These feelings easily come from the act of giving. When you help others, whether directly or indirectly, you are adding to the good side of life. When the mid-point of  life arrives, the question of, "what am I here for?" comes into thought for many people. The only thing that really matters amongst all the chaos is To Love. When you have loving feelings for yourself, other people, animals, nature, God, your Life, you know you are meant to be here.

By giving, you spread your love. Think of yourself as a vessel. When your vessel is filled up, you start to overflow. This overflow is what you are able to give. If you don't have people or family to fill you up with love, you must fill yourself up. Many times, this comes with pets. Pets will give you unconditional love when you take care of them. Another way to fill yourself up with love, is to turn to God. Pray and commit yourself to our greatest Creator. Nature is another wonderful source of love and creation to fill up with as well. Become aware of the beauty and bounty
around you. When awareness of the good happens, appreciation and gratitude follow. Once you start filling your vessel, you are able to give. People who don't get filled, are not able to give. Many times, these are inmates, the poor, mentally ill, or the forgotten. They don't have the capacity to give, because their vessels are empty. Be thankful that you have the capacity, and choose to give, because with giving comes true happiness.

My dad taught our family that you can give the gift of life by donating blood no matter if you're rich or poor. What better gift is there? The gift of life. Giving blood is also very beneficial to your health. It's like an oil change.

Here is a great website that gives ratings and information on charities:

Have you heard of Kiva? It is a grassroots organization that lends money to entrepeneurs around the world. Check it out at www.kiva.org

To contribute to the overall goodness of your community, supporting charitable organizations like Goodwill and Salvation Army is simple when you shop at their thrift shops. You're helping train and rehabilitate the workers, as well as supporting their mission with your purchases. To take it a step further, you're making a statement that you believe in recycling. Shopping at charitable second hand stores also commits to the respect for the environment by not always buying new.

There's a law of the Universe that states what goes around comes around, and that what you give comes back to you in multiples. Even the most simple acts of giving count! Smile at a stranger, hold a door open, tip the toll collector, ask a person's name, contribute to a can food drive, cook for a neighbor.........the list goes on..........
