I remember one of my first experiences serving appetizers at a banquet reception in San Diego. One of the managers put a tray in my hand with some odd looking round balls, and said GO! I asked one of the other servers what it was, and I thought they said, "ta- ta". So, I went around the reception telling people to try the "ta-ta". I had no idea what it was. Later I found out it was pronounced, "Tartar", a raw ground meat of some kind with liquor in it. GROSS. If I had any idea of what I was serving, I might have dumped it in the planter boxes. I was so amazed at how many people ate it without knowing what it was. What about you?

I like spegetti squash. I make a boulganaise sauce with Ground Turkey. I buy the smallest squashes I can find & only cut them in half so I can use it like a boat on the plate. Garrett & Gwen love it!

This isn't too strange, but it is a delicious, healthy and inexpensive meal.

Roasted Garlic and Sweet Potato Soup

Ingredients:

Onion
Garlic
6 Sweet potatoes
4 C. Low Sodium Chicken broth
1C. Water
Olive Oil

Directions:
Sautee 1 onion in olive oil and put into a food processor.

Roast a full bulb of garlic and 6 sweet potatos (cut in half). Cover the garlic in olive oil and rub the bottoms of the sweet potato with olive oil.

Roast for 45 minutes or until softened.

Squeeze the pulp from the sweet potato and the garlic into the food processor with the onion. Puree.

Pour the puree and the chicken stock into a sauce pan. Add the water and heat. Season to your liking. ENJOY!

well Barb took my first choice, steak tar-tar...aka raw beef. steak tar-tar is considered a delicacy in some circles. my husband introduced me to it. can't figure out how i came to love it, when back then i only ate my steaks well-done!

anyway, my next choice for odd food...is soup made from duck's blood. yup, that's right...blood. in polish it's called czarnina...or black.
it's actually rather sweet, and has white grapes in it, very hardy though it looks like dirty mop water. but i loved it as a kid ! i haven't a clue how to make it, but i know it's available in any stores that carry polish cuisine. should have had this category around halloween !!
