As the end of the year approaches, I always get into a reflective mode and wonder what it's all about......life in general, that is. I generally live with a underlying feeling that I'm not contributing enough, not helping enough, not giving back enough, and usually come down to the question of why the heck am I here? Well, this year, I got the best answer to this general question from my dear husband.

While on vacation recently, I spew all these philosophical queries out to him.....and the final question targeted to him was, "Why do you think you're here Hon?". In his most characteristic calm & insightful way, he said, "I'm here to add to the side of the good". It was the most simple answer.

I thought to myself.......Wow, maybe I can have that as my answer to life too! I've been sleeping a lot sounder knowing that I don't have to come up with a miraculous reason as to how I'm contributing or producing. I can simply be happy knowing that I'm adding to the side of the good.
Any further thoughts about this thing called life for this year's end?

I occasionally ponder the same thoughts. What is my purpose in life? What can I do to help people more who are in need? How can I be a better parent, wife, friend, or co-worker and live life to the fullest before my time has come?
Reflection always seems to be utmost at the end of the year when looking back on what has or has not been accomplished in the past year. I find myself vowing to be a better person, to strive to do better in all that I do, to do more in my life and to take better care of myself. If my time was to come anytime soon I would want to be remembered for all the good things I have done in my life. I would not want to simply be forgotten. I want to have a positive impact on this world.
I have been told that I am a terrific mother, friend, wife and a great volunteer. If that's what I'm most remembered for during my time here on earth than that is a great accomplishment and I am happy with that. I am here to add good to this world and I am doing that.
The end of the year is a great time for reflection. There is always room for us to be better and do better. I am proud to add good to this world.

i can honestly say that i have NEVER thought...what's it all about ! maybe i don't care, or maybe i don't want to know. LOL.

but i do believe we are all here for the pure joy of experience....and the experience of joy.

we've got god's DNA and as extensions of that being, we are here to do, and be, and play, and grow, even work, as we see fit.

i believe we live in a joy-based universe. i don't believe we are meant to suffer. and MY god doesn't want me to suffer either. who wants their kid to suffer?

i think people that are focused on the bad, evil or negative things that seem to exist, need to think different thoughts...because they are short-changing themselves. because love and life is all around them, and focusing on good is just as easy...maybe easier. and it will make them feel better in the process.

live life as fully as you possibly can !!

I like Rich and Barb's answer....and cannot seem to come up with a better answer....
except to add to it: in the great balance of life on earth, the fight between good and evil, to be on the side of the good, and to try to promote integrity and when at all possible lead others away from the wrong side thru my own example and however small I may be in this universe, I believe in the power of one. OK...I hope i expressed myself clearly, I am suffering from lack of sleep....thanks to crazy Holiday travel(work)

I agree whole heartedly with your husband Barb. I just try to be a good person and I thank God everyday for all that I am,for all that I will be and for all that I have. If we give we will receive. My resolution is to be kind. Not very profound but if we all gave out kindness to our fellow human beings it would be a better world.
